Flu can be a serious illness and the vaccine offers the best protection. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) indicates that excess deaths in England associated with flu infection were higher (14,500) than the average figure (13,500) for the 5 years before the pandemic as well as an increased number of hospitalisations.

Flu vaccination is recommended by the government for those who are most at risk of serious complications if they get flu. It is recommended by the government that Pregnant women and children should have the vaccine from September 2024.

Patients who are over 65 years and under 65 who are ‘at risk (with a certain health condition)’ should have the vaccine from October.
